BC licensing essentials

In British Columbia, any company providing strata management services must hold a Strata Management Brokerage Licence from the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) under the Real Estate Services Act. The brokerage's managing broker must also hold a personal licence. Individual strata managers working for the brokerage must hold their own licences.

Licence numbers appear in two formats: older licences use an X-prefix (e.g., X021276); licences issued under the newer registration system use a REX-prefix (e.g., REX605111). Both are valid. BCFSA publishes disciplinary decisions (consent orders, suspensions) separately from the licence register — check both before hiring.
